Since the start of the war, tremendous cuts have been taken out of the healthcare, education, and transportation systems budgets. President Bush has proposed a 2.9 trillion budget to help aid in not only the war, but also the Pentagon. In order to fund this large budget, he is willing to cutback on domestic spending throughout the United States. For instance, Bush wants to cut 100 billion dollars of Medicare and Medicaid funds and also limit those who can get help from the Children’s Health Insurance program. The Bush Administration believes that the cutbacks will help the national budget by the year 2012. Other programs that may face similar problems are the heating and air conditioning programs for low-income homeowners and Head Start, a pre-kindergarten program for poor children. Bob Greenstein, the director of the Center of Budget and Policy Priorities, asserts that “the budget would make inequality worse, and aggressively so.” The White House is steadfastly seeking out the low-income systems and programs and is manipulating their budgets to fit the war needs.
Maybe these cutbacks and spending habits for the war would be justified if we was making a lot of progress, but we are not. The war started on faulty and manipulated information and supposed Iraq connections to the horrific 9/11 events. Also the threat of weapons of mass destructions caused citizens to strongly support the war. Now after 5 years, these reasons for war has fallen through the roof. The war should be taken completely out of our budget, and we should be trying to fix our damaged economy.
Thank you Bush, While your enjoyin' your retirement, you've left a mess for my generation to clean up.
